Diabetic retinopathy, a condition that occurs in people who have diabetes, is the leading cause of vision loss among adults aged 20-74. If detected early, nearly all cases of vision loss from diabetic retinopathy can be prevented.
The Diabetic Eye Center at Illinois Eye Institute is in place to identify diabetic retinopathy and to treat the eye disease before the development of permanent vision loss. The Diabetic Eye Center provides eye exams, visual fields, OCTs, and specialized care for diabetic patients each and every day.
You may have recently been diagnosed with diabetes, or have been living with the disease for many years. We are here to help you in your journey to wellness by providing a support group and materials to achieve your best health. This monthly gathering discusses topics ranging from healthy eating to the importance of knowing your A1C numbers.
The next Diabetes Support Group meeting will take place on June 21, 2:30-4:00 p.m. They are going to talk about “Carbs, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” and “Hgb A1C.” Eye exam appointments will be available to attendees immediately following the meeting.
